Aromatherapy is a natural healing treatment that uses plant extracts or essential oils to improve the health of the body, mind and spirit.
Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils from plants (flowers, herbs, or trees) as an integrative health approach. The essential oils are most often used by inhaling them or by applying a diluted form to the skin. It is the promotion and harmonization of emotional, physical and spiritual health through the application of these extracts. Essential oils are extracted from flowers, fruits, leaves or seeds to capture the aromatic “essence” of the plants that they come from. PAMI has developed an educational aromatherapy brochure with suggested breathing techniques to use with an aromatherapy inhaler or other forms of inhaled essential oils.
Studies have shown that aromatherapy helps:
- Manage pain
- Reduce anxiety
- Calm stress
- Boost immunity
- Improve sleep quality
