The Pain Assessment and Management Initiative (PAMI) at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville has released an updated 2020 version of the Pain Management and Dosing Guide. As a comprehensive tool for health care providers delivering pain treatment, the Guide uses a stepwise approach to pain management.
It contains six distinct panels of information, including oral, nasal, parenteral and topical medications for acute and chronic pain, anxiety, and procedural sedation as well as patient safety, discharge planning and nonpharmacologic management information.
Updates in the 2020 guide were made to the non-opioid analgesics, opioid prescribing and equianalgesic and topical and transdermal medications tables based on newly released guidelines from national organizations.
The Guide undergoes an in-depth annual revision based on a review of current medical literature and practice guidelines. A multidisciplinary team conducts this process, including pain and pediatric pharmacists, emergency medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain physicians. The guide includes the revision date on the first panel, allowing transparent information about the last update.
The PAMI team welcomes your clinical review and feedback to assist us in finalizing the 2020 version of the Guide. After comments have been reviewed and considered, we will remove the 2019 version.
The PAMI website maintains the latest version as a downloadable PDF, meant as a tri-fold when printed for easy pocket storage for clinical use. The Guide prints best as legal size (8.5” x 14”) and can be accessed online: https://pami.emergency.med.jax.ufl.edu/resources/dosing-guide/.
